6 day letters is obviously unprofitable, so there's only 3 options for the future.

1) cut letter deliveries
2) renationalise so every penny stays in the business rather than leaching out to shareholders
3) RM fails and the UK has no universal postal service any more.

I am split on this....

If a 3 day week meant they would offer 3 day a week contracts - I'd take that as I find walking 10 miles a day, 5 days a week absolutely knackers me out and I luckily could get away with working just 3 days a week.

That said,

Mail would be classed as 'heavy' if we only did 3 days a week. It would obviously mean that we'd have 2 days' mail each of those 3 days.

I think most of the mail we deliver isn't actually that important. A massive % of it is junk mail. If every customer decided to unsubscribe from mailing lists as well as go digital with their bills....it would be so quiet. I only get 2 letters per month now.... that said I am delivering to people who get 3 to 5 letters daily - I don't know why they get so much mail.
important to the company that paid RM for it to be delivered though.

If Mail is down as much as we are constantly led to believe, why can’t Royal Mail achieve its delivery targets, or am I missing something.

And the corruption continues. Suddenly Ofcom are considering giving RM a lifeline to cut the USO to 3 days? Saving them hundreds of £millions? Lining their own goddam pockets whilst sticking two fingers up at the workforce and the customers more like.....
Anybody who could've held RM to account has just colluded with them, bent over backwards to accommodate the dodgy dealings

Ofcom[Tweet][/Tweet] hasn’t made any recommendations or given a steer - it has merely outlined the multiple options available. Indeed, the call for evidence and consultation exercise has only opened today, 24 Jan, and will run until 3 April. Presumably thereafter Ofcom will produce another report, perhaps this time making a recommendation or giving a steer. It hasn’t done so yet.

Rather than rely on interpretation and second-hand information in news articles, anyone interested should read the actual Ofcom report itself - available here (https://www.ofcom.org.uk/consultations- ... al-service). The report is the link at the bottom. You can also submit comments, views and evidence to the consultation exercise via the same link.

History has a way of repeating itself!
The water companies are all billions in dept but still paying shareholders, electricity companies reaping there rewards, even parts of the NHS have been privatised(blood donations)
We have the highest train fares in Europe, again privatised.
What makes people think RM will be the exception, it’s just another cash cow foreign investors can use to screw the British public over!
Time is all that’s required, it will become a 3 day delivery at some point. Our terms & conditions will become minimum wage, no sick pay at all.

Yeah...delivered...but not necessarily within 1 or 2 days, 3 or 4 days would still be ok for most of these letters and junk mail.

Dentists are effectively all privatised, very rare to see any NHS dentists advertised anywhere these days

If they cut staff to 3 day do you really believe they will get the mail out on time still with half the staff.

Offcom in cahoots with RM senior management.

Let’s see how many people at Offcom migrate over to RM shortly and are given six figure salaries.

Share price is up. Makes you sick doesn’t it!

you could say that whatever they do.... Royal Mail have become totally unreliable....

but I would have thought the reduction to a smaller workforce where they only need to cover 3 day a week letter deliveries would be easy for them to cover, they wouldn't have staff shortages and I don't think they'd want to get behind by 3 or 4 days. They'd be saving huge amounts of money that they'd likely give a reliable 3 day service.
