Same, always the worse night shift and walks too, and had to pass a sorting test to get the job, nowadays we've got folk refusing to sort because they don't like it

Nights at the station when I started in the 70s was the job to have . As a reserve it was the one I looked forward to. Happy days and nights in my crombie.

Been here since August and had to work every Sunday at a different office delivering parcels. My office is shut on a Sunday so it’s not part of the working week. So, my days off go Mon/Tues, then Weds/Thurs then Fri/Sat but no facility to include Sundays!

Not only is this demoralising for family life but it means I work 7 seven days straight for 2 weeks out of every 3. This is not compensated by having 1 week with 4 days off as I have to work on the feffing Sunday

I can’t see why Sundays can be added to my rotation??

Thoughts?
You knew you had to work Sundays before you took the job
If you don’t like it stop moaning :Boo hoo! and leave :wave
That is a terrible attitude. We are all doing the same job and we should support each other.
What do you expect the way we've been treated - blame Thompson and Ward

Definitely seem to be a bit abnormal to my local "new contract" lot. They have Monday / Tuesday off, and work every Sunday. No moving / rotating days off, just static Mon / Tues.

Feel for you man, but as has been stated, i am afraid it's what you signed up to.
I would imagine eventually things will improve for you as more old posties leave and more new contracts are employed until they have more than enough to cover Sundays and give you guys a break.
If you are enjoying the job then hang in and see where it goes, if not get looking for something more suitable. Gotta remember the company, and surprisingly, a lot of people on here, don't really give a feck.

Hate it but, this is truer that I'd like. Nearly fell out with a 20+ year postie over their statement that "The new contracts don't affect me so I'm voting yes to get what I can.". They eventually saw some truth in my statement that the new starters would be preferred for overtime, as it was cheaper, until us old-contracts were gone. so they may save their static wage, but stifle their own overtime potential.

With that said, we have a lot to consider when we make choices like that... While I don't like it, I can't blame people for taking that yes vote...

That’s not true though. New contracts get 1.25x after 40 hours so will earn £15.36 an hour on docket. Go and check what you get on docket….

they don't get the delivery supplement payment and they're ALL on 30 hour contracts in my experience, so they get f**k all for the first 10 hours. Oh and jack s**t bonus for Sundays, unlike myself.

They are all on 40 hours in my office and surrounding offices. Bosses have even been advised from above they are not to be offered overtime on days off as it’s more expensive.

If you're worried about family life surely there's similar paid jobs around giving you weekends off? I assume Sunday's aren't added to your rotation as there's insufficient cover for Sunday's if you don't work every Sunday.

Evidently there is some variation around, but the core of different contracts resulting in different treatment is still clear.

Which side you fall upon could definitely vary, I'm sure. More likely to "get" extra work on old contract, possibly worth more IF you get it on new... I'm just not the data scientist needed to work it out, but I'm enough of a realist to state that they wouldn't change the contracts to make it better for new starters on average.

Ours are trying to persuade casuals to accept a 28 HR permanent contract on the same crap terms , no supplement, no paid breaks and you of course will work on Sunday. Not had a bite yet.

The business wanted us all to work compulsory Sundays but fortunately it never made it in the deal with the Union because they absolutely knew that existing staff would not agree to it.

That meant that RM had to introduce new staff on contracts to work a Sunday. If you didn't want to work Sundays then why agree to work at Royal Mail in the first place?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
