Hi everyone just an update I had a meeting with my DOM today after OH said I couldn’t go back to my office, he said there are no alternative jobs in different locations and HR asked me if LTBIH with a lump sum payment or a compensation package would suit me. I will find out on Monday so fingers crossed I can finally move on.

First absence is still on full pay.
Second and further absences are at Statutory Sick Pay rates for the first 3 days, then full pay there after (or half pay if you have already exceeded the 6 months limit for full pay)

SSP is £00.00 for the first 3 days

I'm pretty sure that got changed to 2 days unpaid.

D'oh...numpty me failed to double check the actual documents that actually are freely available to us. It is in fact slightly worse than I thought
(In my poor attempt at a defence, there's been so many damn course changes or full on u-turns in the last 18months)

Regarding the sick pay conditions from the screenshots, point 4 about having to stay at home (unless for medical reasons). That is surely unreasonable and a breach of a person's human rights? If you live on your own, are you not allowed to go out and buy food, are you expected to starve?

That has always been there.
It's for over zealous managers to wank themselves over.

I had 1 day off for my first sickness....which is fully paid for however long you have off.

3 days off for my second sickness.....which the first 2 days are only paid statutory sick pay which is £21.88 per day?

and I am currently possibly going to be off for 4 days for my 3rd sickness.....which the first 4 days only get the £21.88 per day statutory sick pay.


I've almost had the worst number of days off each time that you could possibly have off for the way this new sickness policy has been set out.

You ideally want your first sickness to be the longest....and any subsequent to be short.

So I think I've lost £270 in sick pay since these changes were made. I've had these 3 separate sicknesses in the approximate 3months this new policy has been running. Before that I had 10 months without any illness.

Because I am not currently being paid my wages for my current sickness, I feel like I should go in tomorrow when I am not fit for work.

The policy is obviously about saving money and encouraging people to come back to work when they are not fit to do so. I understand it also aims to reduce skiving, but it may also encourage it, especially for that first absence where it is fully paid.

Hi it’s where you get I’ll health retirement and they pay off, you can’t work at Royal Mail anymore in any capacity due to your illness but you can find a suitable job in another business

So if you’re a manager do you get full sick pay, whilst the poor sods doing all the work get stiffed, mind you I blame the union for this absolute mess of a policy. Talk about being sold out , thanks Dave , cracking deal.
