Even in the current climate this remains the best job I’ve had, but that’s just as it currently stands. Obviously my viewpoint is likely to charge with mandatory Sunday working, evening finishes etc. Perhaps it also shows how bad my other jobs have been.

What I will say is I ‘quiet quit’ this job which has made things a lot more enjoyable for me.

20 years service award is a minute tie pin. Months afterwards, I eventually got an invite to attend a dinner at the local Marriott Hotel which I didn’t attend as I wouldn’t have known anyone.
I retired Christmas week after more than 24 years service aged 68. The letter I received from Royal Mail stated, ‘I understand that you have left Royal Mail Group employment’ and included a benefit form and P45.
No mention of ‘thank you for your service’ or ‘we wish you well in your retirement’
I’m so glad I’m out of it. The last few months were awful. I loved the job but it has changed so much.

Do you know how long the break between service is allowed to be?

My break was 10 years, but as I was able to provide evidence of start and finish dates of my first bout of employment, HR was happy with the evidence submitted and honoured the extra annual leave. If you were in the pension scheme during your first bout of employment that will be very good evidence!

Also to note, if you do manage to provide suitable evidence and it is accepted by HR, if you have paid any surplus annual leave purchase they will back-calculate how much that is and refund it back to you via wages.

Reduced or no sick pay,no increase in annual leave,no chance of a descent duty(they have all been absorbed),no uniform because your current staff and considered a burden....
