Re: 2023 predictions
VESA completes its acquisition, RM is delisted and taken private.
All parcels traffic via the new super hubs and parcel depots - some will be RM Delivery Offices and some will be Parcelforce hubs, dependent on area - nearly all parcel deliveries handled via Parcelforce which will be almost 100% owner/driver and eventually even small parcels move to this new network.
All profits from parcel traffic listed onto Parcelforces books rather than Royal Mails, while any debt related to the set up of the new super hubs will be kept on Royal Mail books.
Once the new network is fully up and running, announce a full separation - Parcelforce and GLS as one joint company (with all the new super hubs and depots moved to them as well) and Royal Mail left as it's own company, but with essentially no parcel traffic at all and just letters.
Massive sell off of RM property that far exceeds anything they've done so far, MC and DO closures across the country, massive amalgamations into rented properties that cost a fortune.
Give it three months, Royal Mail is near bankrupt - loaded up with the debts of setting up the new parcel network (but with none of the profit derived), stuck with only letter deliveries and no profitable parcels - company pleads poverty, unable to maintain even the reduced USO, haemorrhaging money and the Government is told the only way to maintain the USO is for Royal Mail to be renationalised.
Which it is, but it's an RM saddled with massive debt, with no way of ever being profitable - doesn't even have Mail Centres anymore or any parcels to deliver - has to be maintained by the government at massive cost just to service debts, pay buildings rents and worker costs (such as pensions) and maintain even a reduced USO.
Meanwhile GLS/Parcelforce have a nice shiny new logistics network that no other parcel company can hope to rival, all the profitable parcel contracts taken from RM, a workforce that's cheap as s**t due to all being owner/drivers and Simon and Co sail off into the sunset with their massive bonuses to the next company to asset strip.

Did you copy and paste that from the second page of the Royal Mail share IPO prospectus of 2013?Minischoles wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 11:42VESA completes its acquisition, RM is delisted and taken private.

Impossible to close all MCs without ending all letter deliveriesMinischoles wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 11:42Which it is, but it's an RM saddled with massive debt, with no way of ever being profitable - doesn't even have Mail Centres anymore or any parcels to deliver - has to be maintained by the government at massive cost just to service debts, pay buildings rents and worker costs (such as pensions) and maintain even a reduced USO.

MCs to go first without a doubt. Writings on the wall there I’m afraid.

Re: 2023 predictions
They'll do all the sorting at the Super Hubs - probably arrange some deal where RM have to pay a fortune to Parcelforce for access and for them to do the sorting work as an extra revenue stream post separation.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 19:51Impossible to close all MCs without ending all letter deliveriesMinischoles wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 11:42Which it is, but it's an RM saddled with massive debt, with no way of ever being profitable - doesn't even have Mail Centres anymore or any parcels to deliver - has to be maintained by the government at massive cost just to service debts, pay buildings rents and worker costs (such as pensions) and maintain even a reduced USO.

Do you really think that PF would sort letters and flats?Minischoles wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 20:36They'll do all the sorting at the Super Hubs - probably arrange some deal where RM have to pay a fortune to Parcelforce for access and for them to do the sorting work as an extra revenue stream post separation.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 19:51Impossible to close all MCs without ending all letter deliveriesMinischoles wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 11:42Which it is, but it's an RM saddled with massive debt, with no way of ever being profitable - doesn't even have Mail Centres anymore or any parcels to deliver - has to be maintained by the government at massive cost just to service debts, pay buildings rents and worker costs (such as pensions) and maintain even a reduced USO.

If they're paid for it, why wouldn't they? There's nothing that says letters have to be sorted in a Mail Centre, it's just how RM is set up to run now and Simon has made it clear that's going to be changing.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 22:02Do you really think that PF would sort letters and flats?Minischoles wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 20:36They'll do all the sorting at the Super Hubs - probably arrange some deal where RM have to pay a fortune to Parcelforce for access and for them to do the sorting work as an extra revenue stream post separation.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 19:51Impossible to close all MCs without ending all letter deliveriesMinischoles wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 11:42Which it is, but it's an RM saddled with massive debt, with no way of ever being profitable - doesn't even have Mail Centres anymore or any parcels to deliver - has to be maintained by the government at massive cost just to service debts, pay buildings rents and worker costs (such as pensions) and maintain even a reduced USO.
If the Mail Centres are closed down and only the Super Hubs exist, then they'll sort letters and flats there with everything else.
A nice little revenue stream for a separated parcels company, direct from the government via the renationalised rump of Royal Mail that can't ever be cancelled and can only be renegotiated upwards as 'expenses' get higher - the kind of thing corporate dreams are made from.Mr Rush wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 23:29Oh, I can see it now... Re: 2023 predictions
That would result in an end to walk sort and walk sequencing, they'd just sort to physical offices only. Say a large DO gets its letters and flats currently split into 4 selections, if this scenario plays out, all them 4 selections would arrive as one selection mixed togetherMinischoles wrote: ↑18 Nov 2022, 09:19If they're paid for it, why wouldn't they? You forgot to add to your scenario that everyone's pensions will be worthless.
