Re: Hypocrytes on the Picket
Someone who does overtime or works their day off does not make them a 'Hypocrite on the Picket'.
Poor form.

Re: Hypocrytes on the Picket
Common sense dictates that during an industrial dispute, workers don't bend over backwards helping their employer to get on with the business of f***ing them over.
That means, working just your contracted hours.
No going over. No overtime. Nothing that helps out Thompson and the whole Royal Mail shitshow we have to suffer under.
We shouldn't need to be balloted.

Re: Hypocrytes on the Picket
Working their day off on a different day of a strike day isn't helping Thompson. (Sure he's losing a mill every day no matter what!!) It's helping themselves recoup lost money!!! Why can't people see this. There's people on here bitching that they're gonna go in if the one day a week strike that effects them and loses them money keeps going on until Christmas but they haven't got the sense they were born with to just work their day off to gain that back!!! Obviously if you don't do overtime or refuse to do overtime it is your own call but stop bitching to others. Especially when some of you continuously call for each other to have each others back. Fs grow up

So those that regulary depend on ot (partimers should now stop) because we are striking would you rather have them cross picket line?DirtyHarry wrote: ↑23 Oct 2022, 17:18Common sense dictates that during an industrial dispute, workers don't bend over backwards helping their employer to get on with the business of f***ing them over.

But by definition, if we take any organised action, like an overtime ban or "work to rule", we would need to be balloted. Or it would be unofficial strike action.DirtyHarry wrote: ↑23 Oct 2022, 17:18Common sense dictates that during an industrial dispute, workers don't bend over backwards helping their employer to get on with the business of f***ing them over.

The fact that your opinion on the matter isn't shared by everybody, makes this point abundantly clear. For it to happen, it would have to be organised, and thus it would have to be balloted for... it's that simple.

Re: Hypocrytes on the Picket
People go to work to get paid. People do overtime to maximise their earnings. People go on strike to stand up for what they believe is right, for them, their families and their colleagues. I'm one of the above and like 90% of my colleagues (random number but one I believe is an about right figure of us striking) I don't see a problem with people working their days off. And then we have others who are either too bone idle to even contemplate working their day off. Or have a chip on their shoulders because they've been hard done by before or don't get their own way and hence refuse to do overtime or work that wee bit extra to complete their duty (which is their right by the way!) and these are the people who come on here and whine because how dare anyone not do what they want or what they do. Just as I respect your decisions as to not do any overtime I would like to think you would respect mine and the vast amount of us as it seems that not only mind doing abit of overtime but also at this point of time feel it is a necessity to see us through. So there you go, rant over!!!

Re: Hypocrytes on the Picket
Well, what others do is no concern of yours whatsoever, if they want to support the industrial action by striking then do some overtime afterwards to make up money to fulfill their commitments then good on 'em.DirtyHarry wrote: ↑23 Oct 2022, 17:18Common sense dictates that during an industrial dispute, workers don't bend over backwards helping their employer to get on with the business of f***ing them over.

Re: Hypocrytes on the Picket
You can frame it whatever way you want but if doing overtime and working your day off wasnt helping Royal Mail during the dispute then nobody would be asked to do it. Why would they waste the money?
I understand WHY people do it. I understand the CWU cannot instruct its members not to do it but lets not pretend that it isnt helping the business.

If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Also let's not pretend it's helping us more by doing overtime than Royal Mail so I'll frame that!!!

Re: Hypocrytes on the Picket
My personal choice not to do overtime, extend, or anything else that could give a crumb of comfort to Thompson and the shitshow that is Royal Mail, isn't unnofficial strike action.Murdoch wrote: ↑23 Oct 2022, 20:14But by definition, if we take any organised action, like an overtime ban or "work to rule", we would need to be balloted. It's an emminently wise decision.
As it would be for anyone wishing to do the same.
It doesn't need organising.
It doesn't need balloting.
It just needs us to be clever.

Re: Hypocrytes on the Picket
If too many people suddenly stop doing OT, extend, work to rule etc, whether organised by the CWU or not it could potentially be construed by RM as being unofficial industrial action

Re: Hypocrytes on the Picket
You're making my point for me... you say it's a personal choice. I agree. It's your personal choice. Since we haven't been balloted for an Overtime ban, it's everybody's personal choice whether they do or don't.DirtyHarry wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 10:21My personal choice not to do overtime, extend, or anything else that could give a crumb of comfort to Thompson and the shitshow that is Royal Mail, isn't unnofficial strike action.

Re: Hypocrytes on the Picket
If someone who was doing OT before the strike continues doing the same OT as before it makes no difference.aiden01 wrote: ↑23 Oct 2022, 20:08So those that regulary depend on ot (partimers should now stop) because we are striking would you rather have them cross picket line?DirtyHarry wrote: ↑23 Oct 2022, 17:18Common sense dictates that during an industrial dispute, workers don't bend over backwards helping their employer to get on with the business of f***ing them over.

Working an extra day to make back the money you lost from striking (so 5 days normally, 4+1 during strike) is just scabbing by the back door.
However, I wouldn't say anything to anyone about it, it's up to them whether they want to do it or not.
