Being the council there's probably potential to move around within after a while once you're in the door.

I also left not ago, while i miss the actual delivery and a quick few words with customers and colleagues, the stress, horrendous management and guaranteed knee/leg issues just isn't worth it. I imagine some in this company could have it easier with purely parcel deliveries, but shift work and no ability to book holidays killed any future positives that i thought could exist.

If you've been offered direct employment by the council i'd jump at it. Even sub contracted it's worth reading some reviews of the company and weighing up the pros and cons. The council is a secure job and you should be reasonably well looked after. If it were me i'd do it, and when i was job hunting the council was one place i kept checking.

Also it's worth getting experience elsewhere, even if it's just so you can move onto another job elsewhere.

I am quite tempted to take the job as by the sounds of what is to come it seems a lot better than staying at royal mail.

I'm just wanting some input from anyone really as I'm in two minds weather to stay and actually see what happens to our t and C's or just take the job and get out.

Keeping our streets tidy from the crap that lazy a##ed tw*ts drop on the floor or flytip, emptying public waste bins,
dog poo bins. Can involve maintenance tasks as well. Respect to all those that do it.

I have been with royal mail about a year and am on the new starter Sunday contract. I have been doing one in six Sundays.

This job I have been offered is with my local council direct and at interview they said they were looking for people to train up in different areas. Also what attracts me to the job is the set working hours and not having to have an argument just to finish on my time like I do now.

Also with what sounds like is coming to the postie job it looks like even if I turn down this job I will be having to look for another one pretty soon.

You know the obvious answer, and you're answering your own questions, you will be forever looking back and wondering why you let it slip by if you don't take the offer.

As I have said a few times now, anything that's agreed in this dispute will only last until next year, when all this crap will start all over again.

Take it from me, having weekends off, you have always got something to look forward to during the working week, planning what you're going to do, and Friday's always feel great. DO IT!

How many hours are you on? Why race round when you can take your time, and cut off? You want to be making life as difficult as possible for the higher-ups, specially at this time.

Depends on your circumstances financially. It will be an hourly pay drop, how is the scope for overtime? My mate does this and he's on 21k a year but that is pretty much the maximum he will earn. With RM part time its about 20k but there is always scope to earn upto £30k if you want the hours for say a mortgage or other things. There are a couple of people at our place earn around £35k here just working their day out and perhaps going over a couple of hrs a week.
If your at a time of life where you havent a big mortgage around your neck or if you have a partner that earns decent money then go for it.

I'm just thinking that if all the changes come in then I don't want to be stuck working weekends. My wife is a teacher and earns decent money and also if I took the job it would free up my weekends.

I'm currently on 30 hours at royal mail. This new job would be 37.

I understand I could be cutting off but it just comes with more hassle and feels like they put a mark against your name if you are doing that.
