At least the weather was pretty good today.
That was the thought I had in mind when a resident opened her door to receive a package and her vicious dog bolted out to chase me across the front lawn.

Mail has been lightish the last couple of days, so workload on my round has been just about manageable.
But Christmas Cards are incoming. Boxes rammed today.
Add that to the ongoing parcelageddon, and we're in for fun times.

Yeah I had a reasonable day for the first time in a couple of weeks. When these Christmas cards really start coming in over the next week together with more people not being home due to lockdown being lifted that’s when things are really going to crumble unless you want to be out till after dark.

Cheers! Yes, at Christmas our office obviously had no leave in December and if I recall right every 4 or 5 adjoining rounds combined had a colleague attached who would deliver solely large parcels all shift from his van and sometimes specials. It used to work well and meant most pairings didn't go over by much having been relieved of large parcels. Of course there would be regular arguments as some pairs tried to dump a few smaller packets in the parcel york for that driver, who would chuck them back on the frame along with a shout of "Really? you're taking the ^%"£*^g p*ss!!" To be fair, if there was an acceptable parcel for an address, the parcel person would let you attach the mail and smaller packets to it to save you a call.mickeymacca wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 05:53'parcel only duties' .....what are they.......thanks busted, much appreciated and hope you are doing well

I guess this seems like nirvana now given the staff shortages and exceptional workloads at present.

Needed two full time posties to have a hope of clearing my duty today, mountains of letters and parcels... I delivered what I could until home time.

My feet are aching right now. I've got a good pair of shoes with gel insoles, but talk about still getting sore feet!
It's getting tough on the body carrying so many parcels nowadays. And I just realized that the worst time to have a heart attack is when you're playing a game of charades.

That was the mother of all days. Far too late getting out of the office and far too late getting back. You could feel the tension in the office all morning and it descended into shouting matches between posties and the managers on more than one occasion, what a mess.

Mmmm that sounds familiar!! Only our office has a "Postie" supervisor acting like a manager and doing their dirty work for them!!Grumpyoldmailman wrote: ↑02 Dec 2020, 20:03That was the mother of all days. The york shortages seem to be quite bad already, with a good few pallets of mail instead of yorks. If the york shortages keep up or get worse, then RM will have to issue each DO with a pallet truck as it'll reach the point where we have to send the work to DOs on pallets instead of yorks

Bang.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Just about now I think, when I came back (2 hours late) there seemed to be about half the stuff that came in this morning still in the office. The managers have given up on trying to clear as long as the specials and tracked are done the rest can wait, don’t know when they expect it to wait until though

Our DO is going to burst like a bubble soon. I bet in many DOs it's heading that way too. If you finish on time or around the time there will be no one back apart from a couple of lightest barrow walks manned by the laziest people. Crashing PDAs in wet weather are going to be a nail to the coffin.

Actually laughed when I walked into our office this morning.
You can hardly move in there, literally.
