Official figures show it has been busier than Xmas this week.

I am talking about the office I work in but it is evidence that this week has been very busy. This is over and above having the bank holiday.norris9 wrote:WowCelgar wrote:Official figures show it has been busier than Xmas this week.

When you are at your frame and you accumulate the Mis-sorts and Redirections...how does it work in your office in terms of where you put these....
We have an area where there are slots/shelves and if you have any Mis-sorts or Redirections which are post-coded to our depots area of delivery, then we put those ones in the relevant post coded shelf slots BH1 BH2....but what do you guys do with the ones that need to be sent to other depots across the country....we put those in the shelf slot which bares the number of the job we are on. So if I was working on job 69 and I had a bunch of letters for postcodes elsewhere in the country or abroad....then I'd stick it in the 69 slot. Is this what you guys do too?
I'm just questioning if I am doing this correctly, as I don't understand why it needs to go into the slot for your job, but I am sure this is where I was told to place these letters, though now I am questioning if I am doing it correctly.

In our DO there are trays outside the callers office door - one each for redirected letters and flats and one each for killed off letters and flats. In the IPS frame there are pigeon holes marked 'missorts' and anything classed as that goes in that pigeonhole. If its not for our office it goes in there.norris9 wrote:When you are at your frame and you accumulate the Mis-sorts and Redirections...how does it work in your office in terms of where you put these....

Not critisizing you but it surprises me that you haven't been shown some of the stuff you have questions about in your posts on this forum. Please continue to ask questions though - happy to answer them.

Yeah, this shelving area wasn't really explained to me in much detail, just whenever I had done redirections I would be shown where to put them, but there is a lot of shelving and other slots that I have not had explained to me. Anyhow...obviously depots do things differently, for yours I am just imagining a few trays, whereas we have shelves galore. Cheers for helping.Celgar wrote: In our DO there are trays outside the callers office door - one each for redirected letters and flats and one each for killed off letters and flats. it would seem unlikely you should be putting missorts into a slot with your own duty number rather than in a slot for "missorts" which everyone used for that purpose.

I was bitten by a dog this week (3rd time now in 18 months). This one was a "silent but violent" typenorris9 wrote:I just think it's unbelievable that dogs are free to do what the hell they want. Owners don't give a crap. If you have a dog, you should have a porch, or some door/gate in your corridor to stop the dog running out the front door, or attacking letters/posties fingers as the post comes through.Celgar wrote:Best to not let a dog get behind you if you haven't encountered it before and make sure you can see what it is doing. A tiny fluff ball comes running out yapping as a dude just back from the gym opens his front door.
The little fluffer went and bit the back of my legs....I was wearing trousers, so no damage. If I hard worn shorts I think it would have drawn blood.
This job is going to be so much fun. I can't wait until an Alsatian attacks me, seems inevitable.
Some dogs are scratching and barking at the front door like some lunatic zombie that wants your blood. Most bark, but there are silent ones where you put the post through and boom it's ripped out of your hand with force.
The previous time I was attacked it was quite nasty and had a huge bruise on my thigh for a couple of weeks. Every time it happens I wonder whether it's worth it (one of the guys at our place almost lost a finger after an attack) but the thought of going back to a desk job keeps me going and the pros still outweigh the cons at the moment (although will see how things pan out with RM's modernisation program.....).

I just had a brexit party leaflet and had to shove it right through the letter box (did not have one of those posting contraption things on me) and without warning it bit hard. bloody painful but luckily it only just broke the skin in a couple of places and didnt bleed too much.

Nasty. Wow 3x. I am realising it's only a matter of time before I get bitten.... I just think it's complete and utter madness that this is tolerated. A dog owner should either keep the dog away from the door at all times, have an external wall mounted letterbox, or an internal box which the mail falls into. If a Postman is ever bitten by a dog when they put fingers through a letterbox - that owner should be banned from owning a dog for life. I cannot believe that dog owners think it's ok for them to leave their dog to freely attack the post and risk a nasty injury and loss of fingers, to anyone posting to their home.
There are so many dogs that jump up at the post to rip it out of your hand. I often avoid pushing things through, even if I hear no sign of a dog, I am not risking a finger or two being bitten off. I also sometimes avoid pushing things through those lethal letterboxes that are solid metal and snap back at 100mph like a guillotine, it's like they are purposely designed to injure Posties.

you can ask for a "posting peg" basically a cheap bit of plastic that prevents you putting your fingers through the letterbox.
In reality this is just another tool that RM dont want posties to actually use as it would take forever to deliver mail using it, but it protects their arse and puts the blame onto the postie if you do get bit from a dog behind the door.

I think it's only worth using for putting dockets through. Screw it if I cannot get your post through your stiff heavy flaps/draft bristles without putting my fingers inside....it can stay in the middle of the flaps.Postie45 wrote:you can ask for a "posting peg" basically a cheap bit of plastic that prevents you putting your fingers through the letterbox.

Not 'you can' but 'you must....' - we've been told manager won't have any sympathy and we'll be conducted if we put our fingersPostie45 wrote:.....you can ask for a "posting peg" basically a cheap bit of plastic.....
into letterbox and get bitten without using a posting peg.......
One of our barrack room lawyers said that technically if your little pinkies are waving about through the letterbox into the air inside
the house then you're trespassing beyond implied right of access - make of that what you will.....

The best bit of my day was when they cut to the faces of the Liverpool supporters when Man City went 2-1 up.
Priceless.
Priceless.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Hey. I am a new starter. Last week was my 1st one and I find it quite busy. No break really and I am aware of 40min break we are allowed. Hopefully it will get quieter. Even Saturday looked no different to Friday at all.
