I am not specifically talking about Saturdays. I am talking about everyday. He wants me in 15 minutes earlier everyday I work with him.
Only reason to do this, is if it truly benefits you, sounds like it doesn't, so dont. Next he`ll be asking you to come in 30 mins earlier.

If your partner is regular on the round surely they can assist you? I've worked two to a frame when I've got a newbie on a van share. Invariably it's when we're catching
up on putting flats into the frame and if it's addressed to his/her end of the frame I just chuck to the left/right as appropriate saying 'your side' or I just say 'carry on I'll work around you'. Then when all the flats are in I move back to my frame to do packets and parcels - time made up, no dramas.

No authorisation from the manager.

I am not sure why, this round is not that bad, or at least doesn't feel that bad, but we finish late every time. I think I have got my speed up to close to the best I am going to ever get as a reserve. With other Posties I have been out with they seem a bit more proactive, don't need pee breaks, and usually all finish their loops before me.... apart from this dude. So I actually think that if this guy wants to save time then he should speed up and if he drinks a load of tea and coffee in the morning then he should cut down and not expect me to save him time by coming in early.

But to be fair to us, I think I am usually with him on the busy days. Not sure we have had a single light day yet.

When I get in to the DO the parcels have been done or more or less been done. I just do redirections and bag up. I don't need help with that.

I have done the marking up of parcels with a Postie before and honestly I think the Postie who is familiar to the frame would get it done faster if I wasn't there in his way dithering trying to find where the heck number 69 Bing Bong Lane is. Sometimes Bing Bong Lane is actually on another frame the other side of the office and I wouldn't have a clue, I'd be there for 1 minute trying to find the effer on my frame.
I got authorisation from the manager to come in early. My contracted start time is 9 am but was asked to start at 8.30. I found that my partner and I where usually late leaving office. Often there would be more sequenced mail to put in the frame plus mis sorts and then the packets so I got authorisation to start at 8 am.
I often start 10 or so min early, mainly because it takes me 30 min to get to the depot so I leave home early in case of traffic problems. Starting 10 min early allows me to take it a bit easier.
We often finish our loops at different times due to my partner delivering some of the larger parcels on his own.
Next week is my 6th week on this walk so after that I'll probably get moved around but doing a lot of my own prepping has given me a little more experience although I'm still unsure of the prep sequence and never really know when to start tying up.

Was fairly crazy for me. Left the depot at 3 to go home.

Newbie aswell, but felt that even though yesterday was very busy, my speed was good. Was often back at the van around 5 minutes before my walk partner. I have no idea where he was on one loop, he was 7 minutes slower than me.

I would really love to do my round alone, no van share. It would be so much more relaxing, can work to your own pace, not have someone else pressurising you, not have someone else in your car that always needs to go for a piss break....
Did you use your trolley?

That's the sequence I do, most shouldn't be much different.

These are the basic elements of the job and it is a failure of your DO that you have not been shown properly how to do this.

Finally got my van back from the RM mechanics and used it yesterday with apparently nothing wrong with it. Arrived at work this morning and everyone was saying there was a pool of liquid underneath my van. The mechanics had replaced the oil sump but had not done it properly and all the oil leaked out!!
The mechanics had tried to say we or I had damaged the van on purpose which is libellous. We are not lunatics and have no interest in damaging our vans on purpose. My van often seems to be in the garage more than it is available for me to use but that is no fault of mine.

Yesterday I had a woman waiting in her car as she saw me coming down the road....

"Can I have my post, please" she says...

"I can't give the post to you in the street" I said with a smile on my face... "I don't know who you are".

She was like "This is the first time a Postie has said that to me".

I posted her post through her door and she got out of her car and went back into the house to get her post....a bill.

Was all pretty jovial, but I do feel bad saying no to these people every time they are outside their homes. They don't take kindly to it either. Not sure why some of them think it's ok to ask a new Postie that they have never seen before, if they can have their post in the street let alone 2 streets away from their own house. One time I had just put on my bag to do a walk, a lady pulled up in her Mercedes next to me, put her window down and asked if I was heading to so and so avenue - she wanted her post, I was just like - I don't know if I am going to that road, sorry. She drove off, looked pissed.

Not sure why people are so keen to have their post. It's like it's the biggest excitement of their day.

Someone else mentioned something about sealant as well. The van went back on a recovery lorry and is going to be scrapped or whatever happens to them next. I think I will have a new petrol van instead of diesal now.

Don't feel bad about it - they'll soon kick off if you hand out their new debit card to some random in the street - and whose fault will it be?

It's kind of awkward. I wonder if new Posties stick to the rules...

It's common for people to be in their driveways and they want to take their post there and then. If the front door is open then I am ok giving them the post, but sometimes they are sitting in their cars ready to go out, or have just came back home, or maybe fixing something in their car and their front door is shut.... I'll admit I have given post in situations like this...

Saying no to them and telling them we have to post it through the door... you get the WTF looks, where they look completely baffled and pissed that you won't give them what is theirs and they have that look of hatred in their eyes as they feel distrusted, 'how dare he think I might be a liar and a thief!'. Then they have to get out of their cars and go back into the house to pick up their post.

I'll usually ask to see ID if I'm on a round I'm not familiar with and don't recognize them. Most people have been fine with that.

Had my first dog attack today. A tiny fluff ball comes running out yapping as a dude just back from the gym opens his front door.

The little fluffer went and bit the back of my legs....I was wearing trousers, so no damage. If I hard worn shorts I think it would have drawn blood.

This job is going to be so much fun. I can't wait until an Alsatian attacks me, seems inevitable.
