Easy today. Last letter in at 11.55am paid till 2.15pm, managers were already gone home when I got back. We don't get a late run anymore so people are out the office by 8.45am. Eventually, everyone going to get an extra loop added on. I come in on time and finish an hour before my duty so i am only doing 31 hours a week or so.

Your in for a shock, have you not had a revision?, We went over today average now over 5 hours.

yes 5 years ago but with no late mail people are saving 40 minutes not waiting around for it, eventually they will redesign the walks if people are finishing a hour before their time everyday

"GOOD MORNING ROYAL MAIL !!", Woke up this morning with too much time on my hands ,as im off work with a broken ankle ,but that's a story for another day : , then got to thinking things need to change in my life to become a better me , so from this day fourth , I vow to become totally selfish and act without emotion to the people around me , to disregard health and safety rules unless it assists me in any way of course ,oh yes and remove all moral compass, which in turn makes it esier for me to bully or manipulate those beneath me for personal gain , then withhold important information if it suits me of course , and finally if all else fails just lie .

As a newbie I am realising that I am regularly going to be cutting myself whilst doing this job...

Every 3 days I seem to cut a finger, and one time my blood got onto someone's letter...I was like what is that, then I realised I had split my finger open.

You are probably not supposed to deliver post with blood on it? What happens in this situation? It wasn't masses of blood, it was a few drops.

I get paper cuts quite often. It's amazing how sharp the edge of paper can be. Don't worry about a little blood on the letters.

I always carry a pack of those tissues that are sold in supermarkets or discount stores. The packs come in bundles of eight or so and cost a total of around £2.00 for the cheapest brand. With hay fever season coming on, I'll probably have a few packs in my pouch. Anyway, with stained envelopes I dab some water on the tissue and give it a wipe. Not too much, otherwise the letter can be damaged. The water will come from a bottle I carry in my pouch for the hot weather.

Another thing that I find handy: Pop a box of Band-Aids/plasters in your pouch. I've found that having them on me while I'm walking has been a saving grace. Cuts from gates & fences, sharp-edged letters, cat scratches, letter slots that rub against one's knuckles, you name it. A box of plasters in your own pouch is helpful.

Even eye cleaner for when dust and gravel gets chucked up in your eyes in high wind. For a company who want to be health and safety conscious it seems the right thing to do

Some of the vans I've been in have a first aid kit, Tinoblade, but they're a fat lot of good when the van is streets away and a walking postie is bleeding all over the neighborhood. And to add to that, the kits aren't always stocked up. So yes, Royal Mail could do better with supplying fully stocked first aid kits for all the vans, as they do inside the delivery offices. As for carrying a few Band-Aids in a pouch or in a pocket, that'll be up to the postie who's a few hundred meters away from the Royal Mail vans.

Something else I like to keep in my bag or van which is handy: A small pack of wet tissues like these Kleenex wipes below. They're only about £1.00 from Tesco. I use these to clean the ink off my fingers after delivering freshly-printed door-to-doors. But maybe the water bottle I carry on hot days and the pack of tissues in my pouch oughta do the job, too.

It's worrying knowing it's actually relatively common for Postie's to get bitten.

Dog bites are not that common in actual fact. It costs RM money when we do get bitten though so RM make a big thing about it. Similar to children in London running around stabbing each other which you watch the news would appear to be a big problem. It's actually very small numbers of people involved as a percentage and unless you are involved in gangs and 'county lines' stuff you won't fall victim to it.

Not common? Over seven a day according to RM published figures, which is seven too many:
