Point taken sir ... being honest I've only been in this game for just under 6 years (enforced career change at 53 !) and even in that short time I've seen severe changes - and yes they are not good. I just get annoyed at the perpetual "work to you time/cut off" answer to all problems - to me it's no different to the Management "Can you work over" riposte ... there HAS to be some middle ground now and again ...

thanks for the response, to answer the problem you have brought up, i think people say work to your time / cut off so much because most people posting on here are complaining about the fact they are extending, this suggests they either dont know the cut off procedure or are feeling bullied into staying out.
Again, no one is telling people to not stay out if thats what they want to do.
Yes there can be middle ground, if every so often there was extra work which meant staying out for a little while then I dont think most posties would mind staying out a little while to complete if its possible for them to do so. But in this period the past 4 weeks have been unachievable - EVERY DAY, and not just by the odd 20 mins or so, theres hours of extra work yet RM has decided not to employ any extra delivery staff. I just about have enough energy to do the work in my hours everyday, theres no way I could stay out every day. I reject the claim that posties are to blame for the fact customers arent getting their mail that day, RM try to do xmas on the cheap this is the real problem.

Royal Mail could address this

1. Improve Walk scheduling machine to read Handwritten cards

2. clamp down on companies who send mail like Matalin and Boundary Mill as their mail can't be read the machine due to poor design which means it is lot more work on postal workers for sorting.

3. Get rid of Mail Merging system

4. have a spare van and driver for every 8 walk to help to reduce the pressure on postal workers.

Finished on time, but only because managers made the decision to leave a lot of parcels and mail behind to be done tomorrow. Been a manic few weeks and poor management. Not enough vans, pdas, etc. Well done resourcing to workload!

Crap Monday, on top of the thousand upon thousand of cards we had trays and trays of ScrewFix crap, also holiday brochures

Our office isn't even clear of packets, I think they've given up hope of them going out before Christmas now

1) I don't think that the OCR tech can really be improved much more

2) Can't remember off-hand if them two are DSA or not, if they aren't I can't see RM doing anything as they'd just go over to DSA. If RM do bring in the XMS machines, then all the letters and large letters will get run together anyway

IIRC Matalan most definitely is DSA. No so certain on Boundary but 75% sure they are.

Some extended delivery booked and a few hours for parcels and clearing a box that couldn't be scanned. Seems to be dying down now. Not had any Sunday parcel deliveries from our office this year. A first for a long time.

2 extra vans turned up to clear our office back log packets, and my God they did clear it

That's not all, an extra walker turned up too to take some loops off us

I was all emotional this morning seeing an empty office finally
