We had a new starter, fired for a very mild infraction yesterday. They are definitely looking to reduce staffing numbers already.

Yes, we have new starts regularly. They don’t all stay so it’s a rolling train. Don’t know anywhere that has a glut of staff.

Anyone knows what will happen to people with disabilities or cancer like myself (DDA)who are currently on ring fenced duties?
Are they/we going to be forgotten or just literally pushed to the limit in the hope they/we are forced out by royal mail?
I would not call this a reasonable adjustment to accommodate staff's disabilities/health issues so potentially royal mail could be taken to task over this?
Any advice appreciated.
In addition, they are open to accusations of ageism because heavier and longer walks will and do have a detrimental impact on older workers.

Industrial action might be making a return.
Fire up the stove, I smell bacon in the air.
There could also be constructive dismissal claims brewing because of the change in hours at some locations and the limited offering of exemptions.
I cant see how it could be anything but constructive dismissal. They will be placing people into positions where they will have no option but to resign.

I wouldn’t hold your breath about no compulsory redundancies. The supernumeraries in our local MC were ALL paid off in January ushered out the door after hanging around for six months awaiting their fate.

The change in hours has been agreed by the workforce via a massive yes vote in a legal ballot.

Its not even close to being constructive dismissal.

No one agreed to any specific time change actually, it was a vague statement about changing times. Therefore if they fail to make reasonable concessions to someone with a valid reason for requesting and if they are not refusing to work and if RM use pressure tactics or downright refusal to be reasonable, that is grounds for constructive dismissal.

new starters dont get paid breaks, or delivery supplement. get less money, and have to work Sundays for no extra. i am not surprised they don't stay long. the 2 tier workforce the union didn't want and was one of the reasons they had us out for has well and truly come to be. well done Wardy & Fury.

TBF it was either this or we all work Sundays, at least it's proved that we aren't overpaid as they can't keep them on less money.

you think?....i wouldn't put it past them to bring the majority of the workforce DOWN to new starts pay level rather than bringing them up to long term staff. a 2 tier workforce is what they've got,....for now.

Existing staff are leaving in their droves without cutting pay.

they are replacing those leavers with new starters though,....on new Ts&Cs. less pay no paid breaks etc. only a matter of time and there will be no one getting what the long term staff currently get.

85% left within the first year though. I wouldn't call that replacing them.

the ones that are though are going straight onto the shite Ts&Cs. there's eventually going to be a point where most of the staff are on the crap contracts.

Weren’t they still voluntary though?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
