Simon Thompson, we are curious- from what we read - you don’t really like the employees here - and haven’t liked us for over ten months (or more) by the looks of things - how do you manage to come to workplace every day to criticise the employees so brutally - with that reality? - of course it’s really sh*tty that you do - but we are curious how you manage to....

Once again what a passive aggressive, gaslighting way to talk directly to your workforce. The guy is continuing to show us his lack of class and leadership skills, creating an ever bigger divide at a time when he really should be trying to do the opposite.

Sometimes im tempted to sign up to Workplace but i know myself too well- i wouldnt be able to hold back what i might say to him.

Mr Tolhurst has written a strongly-worded letter to David Willetts Universities and Science Secretary, who had been campaigning to keep postal workers on their bikes.

Mr Tolhurst said: “This mail is, of course, heavier than the traditional letter and as our people carry heavier mail bags, we have to consider the practicality of using cycles and the long-term muscular and skeletal impact of placing up to 16kg on the shoulder at the same time.

“We have seen an increase in the accidents linked to the use of cycles on busy road networks when workers are carrying bags. It is a matter of safety.”

CWU took the bikes away - because they said they were not safe…
they did - I asked - health and safety concern - I wanted to look at bikes again - and that was the push back...

Before the protest, the Communications Workers’ Union had informed CTC ( Bike peeps) that, due to an agreement they signed during negotiations with Royal Mail in March 2010, they would not be challenging the decision to stop postal delivery by bike.

being a CEO of a company like ours - is not something you can do forever - it is exhausting but worthwhile work - but you do get attacked from all sides - which means eventually you get burnt out - but for now, having done 65 months - I am feel fine....!

a day or two in the office, at least one day in the operation, balance at home - my commute to HQ is 4 hours there and back - so the time saved is enormous - plus on workplace 24/7 (apart from the odd hours asleep…) - and usually two to three hours every Saturday / Sunday morning at my desk - before the family wake up…

So he’s basically running the company from his own home and isn’t participating in the pay talks. Always said Royal Mail lacks good leadership and this guy is no different.

He wont need to resign once the posties of this country walk out costing royal mail millions ,he'll be gone and other board members ,the shareholders won't be happy that next year they will receive nothing and their investment will crash,emptying the bank account for shareholders and not investing in its modernisation and people was a bad move ,if you got shares i'd sell now because once the posties start striking they will go into free fall.

Not sure what comments he is referring to here...

But a lot of people vent out about the job in the desperate hope that our gripes and concerns are listened to, including myself.

For me the job is good for the most part. I find that days don't drag, I don't clock watch, I am home by 2.30pm, colleagues are nice, pension is good...

but the job has big negatives that have to be tolerated, such as exhaustion/aches and pains. Being harassed now and again by management to take more work than can possibly be done, etc...

I do wonder if they treated staff better, used common sense to save money rather than putting more pressure on us and essentially forcing Posties out of the company.....would RM be more profitable simply by retaining staff rather than having to re-recruit regularly.

I bet you there are thousands of Postie jobs across the country that are significantly too short, where Posties are going home 30mins or more everyday and nothing is being done. There are probably revisions that have happened where Posties are going home 30mins+ early and nothing will be done to fix it.

Anyway, I think I may be on the way out of the company as the exhaustion for me is way too much and RM seem to have no idea how exhausting it is to walk so far 5 days a week. I wonder how far they are expecting us to walk on these longer winter days they are trying to push us into.

I am young, been in the job a few years, but this job is destroying my body already. No chance I can last long term here.
